Mohamed Camara has waived his right to a preliminary hearing following a horrifying burglar and assault, the Lancaster District Attorney's Office explained and court records confirmed.
Camara of the 500 block of Saint Joseph Street, allegedly broke into a home in the 400 block of Fremont Street and another in the 500 block of Manor St. in Lancaster City in the early morning of Nov. 16, 2023.
At 6:22 a.m. on Fremont Street, a woman — who had fallen back asleep after her husband had left for work — "woke up to an unknown male attempting to sexually assault her. The victim fought the suspect off and caused him to flee and leave behind a pair of Nike sandals and a red lighter, which are currently being processed for DNA evidence," the police said.
Following that, Camara broke into the Manor Street home, stealing a Samsung Galaxy Tablet while the people who lived in the home were asleep, as alleged in the DA's release. The police were called to that home at 10:57 a.m.
Just hours after those incidents, Camara went home and appears to have continued going about his day, making his last post on Facebook:
After he was taken in for questioning police said:
"Camara confirmed his identity to police when shown still images of himself from Lancaster Safety Coalition cameras that captured him during the incidents at both Fremont and Manor Street residences."
Camara has been charged with a parole violation according to the police and the following according to his latest court docket:
- Felony burglary - overnight accommodation, person present.
- Felony criminal attempt - rape forcible compulsion.
- Felony aggravated indecent assault without consent.
- Felony aggravated indecent assault with an unconscious person.
- Misdemeanor indecent assault without consent of other.
- Misdemeanor indecent assault of a person unconscious.
He had pleaded guilty to burglary and simple assault in Nov. 2022, according to a previous court docket. He served 11 months and 29 days in prison and was just beginning to serve one year of probation when he allegedly committed these new crimes.
He has been held in the Lancaster County prison after failing to post $500,000 as set by Magisterial District Judge Jodie E. Richardson at 8 a.m. on Nov. 23, his court docket shows. His formal arraignment has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Dec. 21.
Lancaster City Police Detective Austin Krause continues to investigate these incidents, if anyone has more information they are asked to call the station and request to speak with Krause.
